Construction Site Visit in Cyberjaya

As our final site visit for CT3 group assignment, we went to construction site of HYVE SOHO Suites in Cyberjaya. They were using hollow core slabs for the car park construction and we got the opportunity to observe the installation process for the slabs.

We couldn’t get too close to the installation, nevertheless was able to understand the procedure and gain a lot of extra information and knowledge. Mr. Chen Shin Chuan was our guide and provided us with a lot of information. The site project manager was also doing the same.

Visit to Eastern Pretech (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd

To get more sources for the CT3 assignment, we also visited precast factory of Eastern Pretech (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. The factory is located in Beranang and is the site for large scale production of precast components such as hollow core slabs, columns, beams, etc. The company is also the one which constructed Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.

Mr. Elias, Senior Engineer, gave us a tour around the factory and explained all the components and processes required to produce the precast components. It was a very interesting and informative visit, however, there was a prohibition of taking photos on factory grounds which was a setback for our assignment.

Site Visit to HC Precast System Sdn Bhd

My group for CT3 assignment conducted a visit to HC Precast System Sdn Bhd to gather information regarding IBS systems. The visit was conducted in 2 sessions. One on 3rd October 2013 to the company’s office building in Klang and the other on 11th October 2013 to their factory in Rasa.

The visit to the office was for a session regarding the software used to convert 2D drawings into 3D drawings for the system and at the factory we were able to see the machinery, different components, casting methods and installation methods. Our guide and was Mr. Teow the Technical Director, who gave us all the information. Mr. Choo arranged the visits and also provided us with some information.

The site visit was very informative and helpful for our assignment.

Group Assignment – CT3

Similar to CT2, we were assigned a group assignment to conduct a case study on one of the topics taught during the course of the subject and produce a report within a group of 5 students. The report was to be based on information collected from various sources like factories and sites.

My group chose the topic IBS and we visited two factories and one construction site to gather information for the assignment. By means of this assignment we were able to think critically about the task at hand and learn to work in a team and distribute tasks equally. I was able to act as a leader and delegate tasks and overall compile and look over the course of the assignment. It helped me understand the topic better as well as help my group-mates and work together on the assignment.

However, we did face some difficulty locating construction sites and factories that would accommodate students for information visits.

Learning Outcomes – CT3

Throughout this subject of Construction Technology 3, I was able to understand further into large scale constructions and mainly industrialized building systems in Malaysia. I was able to gain more knowledge on the production of prefabricated elements and systematic manners of installation. I also learned a new topic called Green Building.

The course content was effective and is useful in my future field of work.
