FIDIC Workshop – CL

A two-day workshop was held on 13th and 14th October 2015 lead by Ms. Eugene Lip, who went through the types of FIDIC contracts available and the important provisions in the contract form. We also learned how to apply the provisions of the contract to different case scenarios.

The workshop ended with everyone working in groups to answer some case scenario questions by applying FIDIC contract terms and presenting it.

The group assignment for Construction Law module was based on the case study questions assigned during this workshop.

It was an enjoyable and educative workshop.

In this module, we learned the about the important provisions under the construction law. We learned about contract law and how it applies to construction contracts. This module also focused on standard forms of construction contracts other than PAM form, which is FIDIC, JKR and so on.

We also learned how to apply contract provisions based on the case scenarios and provide advice to clients. The lecturer aimed to prepare us for the industry and taught based on RICS standards which was very helpful and informative.

Some important topics covered under this module include CIPAA 2015, Contractual breach and remedies, payments, form of contract and collateral contracts. Minor topics included land law, UBBL, and so on.

Overall, the module was very informative and provided a deeper understanding on the importance of having knowledge of the statutes and provisions under construction law in the field of quantity surveying.
